In January 2017, I bought the Kindle edition of the Kauai travel guide dated February 2016 (Moon Kaua'i (Moon Handbooks)) I traveled to the island in January 2017.I was very disappointed to come across entries and information that are totally and unacceptably out of date:1) On the North Shore section, you reviewed a shave ice shop called Hihimanu. This shop changed owners about five years ago and was renamed at the time. It is now called "Best Kauai Shave Ice"2) Still on the north shore, the book indicates that the Kilauea lighthouse is open every day. They are not, they are only open Tuesday through Saturday.3) Finally, on the West section, the book reviewed the trails at Koke'e Park. Specifically, they talk about making a loop between the Nu‘aloalo and Awa‘awapuh trails. Turns out that the former has been closed for five years according to the friendly folks at the museum entrance.Seeing these absurd discrepancies in out of date information undermines all trust in the Moon brand (which claims that that locals review and update the information). Moreover the rapid pace at which Moon releases editions appears to be simply re-prints, and not true new editions, which is just a way to keep selling stale information at fresh prices.
Nice pics, good small maps, svelte, clean, concise book. There were lodging and meal sections. I bought the Moon Kaua'i because I enjoyed the Moon Zion & Bryce. However, the 2016 Moon Kaua'i was maybe a bit too concise. Compared to our 2015 Lonely Planet Kaua'i, it could have had more info.
I love moon books. I now don't go on vacation without one. It tells you all the out of the way plus the major items to see.
not always as easy to coordinate by the way its laid out. pretty good.
This is a very helpful guide. Its full of tips for all sorts of travelers.
