A good starting place for building a shed, but lots of mistakes in the instructions. I'm building the bike shed, and so far I've encountered these errors: 1) the shopping list neglects to include studs for framing the door; 2) the sidewall sole plate and top plate are listed with incorrect lengths; 3) the step-by-step photos seem to show a shed without a floor... the floor is never installed, despite the description indicating that that is what is depicted in the photo. Anyway, if you build one of these sheds do so with a critical eye for detail and some common sense.Also, the book starts out explaining what a 2x4 is (yes! we're starting with basics!), but the actual shed building plans say things like "build the left sidewall" and "shingle the roof". No steps or plans for how to do that... you're on your own! I'm thinking if the book starts out assuming you'd need help identifying a 2x4, it's safe to assume you'd need help framing a wall and shingling a roof. Don't get me wrong, you can use Google and some YouTube videos to fill in the gaps, no problem. Just be aware that this book isn't going to hold your hand if you're starting from basics.
Very good section on foundations but other than that, basically 200 pages of plans on strange designs I didn't care about. Did not really have the content I was looking for on, for example, basic principles of how to frame a wall, build a door or design a rafter.
Good book, plenty of handy ideas. Nicely laid out. Instructions are useful. Nice photos for inspiration and a good range from simple to complex designs.
Very informative book. Not only gives you imaginative ideas for sheds it also gives detailed guidance in how to build them from location, foundation and more. Definitely recommend this book.
I had a very positive initial impression of the book. Illustrations are high quality and the text is easy to read and there a good number of designs for you to choose from. The problem is that most of the designs come without any plans/cut lists, anything. There are a few that do; I found the Gothic playhouse to be very appealing and it came with what appeared to be good instructions and buy list. However after starting the build I have found the instructions are either lacking or incorrect, and some of the illustrations (esp the roof guidelines) are downright wrong. The author(s) do not appear to know who they are writing for. For the inexperienced DYI builder this will be a disaster, and the experienced carpenter will not likely even buy this sort of book. Sadly, only the latter type of person will know that the illustrations and instructions are incorrect and make the necessary changes. I think with a major edit and copy review by a professional this book could be make very useful.
Great book. A whole lot of sheds. Not enough simple sheds though. Some great designs large sheds smalls sheds. Worth the money if you are looking to build a shed.
A waste of money, I didn’t learn anything from this book. Looks like I will design my own. For people who can’t design your own, this will not help you. Get a kit or hire someone.
