Once again David Ridges hits a home run with his study guides. This two part (King James Version) New Testament guide offers back-ground and context information that helps the reader understand the customs, situations, language and teachings of this great book of scriptures. The electronic formatting is horrible. Not only are there consistently errors in capitalization of words (for instance: "God" is frequently all lower case letters), there are also numerous areas where the sentences are so jumbled that you can't follow what Ridges is saying, and there are even non-alpha-numeric symbols dumped into the middle of the text. Since I also have the hard copy of this book, I've been able to check the print version to figure out what David Ridges actually wrote. Were it not for this, the formatting would be almost too frustrating to use.I'm not sure if the publisher or Amazon is responsible for the horrible formatting of Ridges study guides (Poor formatting is also problematic in part one of this set, as well as several other "Made Easier" guides written by Ridges, but hopefully they will be shamed into reformatting these books are offering an update to Kindle purchasers. Until this, I would avoid the Kindle edition of these books.
His writing is an attempt to help clarify key points of the New Testament, but more than half of his book contains the actual King James Version of the New Testament, a somewhat disappointing use of space for what the real reason for the book seemed to have been, namely greater clarification of the writings of the early apostles.That he brings to light many of the metaphorical and prophetic insights of the writings by utilizing developed student manuals of the Church for background is one of the key points of authority for his book, so conveniently for students, the amalgamation of these items into a collected edition can save the reader hours of searching other sources for greater insight. This is the big plus of his book.
The book and author are great. The Kindle edition is not. The font size varies from large to tiny. I have to set the font setting on the largest option to read the small text. It seems to me that there should be a software update to correct this or something. It is really quite annoying. This is the first book I have read by this author and he is very informative, but if the other titles are like this, it might be the last. This should be a five star rating if not for the text size.
Love these books! It helps understanding scriptures so much easier without changing the words. Helps explain some things in laymen's terms or simplifies them so anyone can understand them.
This author is the best at making each and every verse more understandable and interesting. I have many of his books now and love them all. If you really want to understand, read his books.
I read part one and I think I rated it a little less than this because sometimes the commentary got in the way of the flow of the scriptures. In this section, however, it is very valuable to have the continual commentary because some of Paul's writings are hard to understand. You can tell that the author has done lots of research.
Such a great help to understand the bible more.
I really enjoyed studying the New Testament with the author’s help, explanations, and references. I would highly recommend this study guide when studying the New Testament. Thank you.
